Inverse limits as attractors in parameterized families

We show how a parameterized family of maps of the spine of a manifold can be used to construct a family of homeomorphisms of the ambient manifold which have the inverse limits of the spine maps as global attractors. We describe applications to unimodal families of interval maps, to rotation sets, and to the standard family of circle maps.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur

Observing different quantum trajectories in cavity QED

The experimental observation of quantum jumps is an example of single open quantum systems that, when monitored, evolve in terms of stochastic trajectories conditioned on measurements results. Here we present a proposal that allows the experimental observation of a much larger class of quantum trajectories in cavity QED systems. In particular, our scheme allows for the monitoring of engineered thermal baths that are crucial for recent proposals for probing entanglement decay and also for entanglement protection. The scheme relies on the interaction of a three-level atom and a cavity mode that interchangeably play the roles of system and probe. If the atom is detected the evolution of the cavity fields follows quantum trajectories and vice-versa.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

Main opportunities considering circular economy in the Portuguese ornamental stone sector

The main objective of this research was to analyze the OS cluster firms’ opportunities to consider the Circular Economy as a part of their corporate strategy. Barriers and drivers were identified, and a qualitative-quantitative analysis could be performed with the help of the multi-criteria optimization software M-MACBETH, resulting in a numeric indicator that provides an objective means to compare projects or opportunities of adoption of CE by a company. This score is a function of the qualitative factors that characterize the project or opportunity, and its main use is in the selection of potentially successful initiatives of adoption of CE.O principal objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar as oportunidades das empresas do cluster OS para considerar a Economia Circular como parte de sua estratégia corporativa. Barreiras e drivers foram identificados e uma análise qualitativo-quantitativa pode ser realizada com a ajuda do software de otimização multicritério M-MACBETH, resultando em um indicador numérico que fornece um meio objetivo para comparar projetos ou oportunidades de adoção de CE por uma empresa. Measures and dynamics of entangled states

We develop an original approach for the quantitative characterisation of the entanglement properties of, possibly mixed, bi- and multipartite quantum states of arbitrary finite dimension. Particular emphasis is given to the derivation of reliable estimates which allow for an efficient evaluation of a specific entanglement measure, concurrence, for further implementation in the monitoring of the time evolution of multipartite entanglement under incoherent environment coupling.
